DISC — Review

Source: Obscured Pictures

DISC is cute, funny, uncomfortable, stressful, and unexpectedly sort of sweet. It’s well-crafted thanks in large part to Blake Rice’s direction and writing, along with co-writer and star Victoria Ratermanis. She and Jim Cummings have great chemistry that makes it easy for viewers to get invested in the story and care about the characters. The narrative involves a topic that I seldom see addressed in films. And despite the film’s logline being “A hook up gone too far up,” admittedly, I didn’t see that storyline coming.

Between the writing and performances, the film’s awkward tension feels almost unbearably authentic. It’s expertly paced so that it never overstays its welcome. And the chemistry between the two leads feels so genuine, vulnerable, and honest that viewers may wish this short film were even longer, allowing us to spend more time watching them interact. Overall, DISC is a well-constructed and well-acted short film about an awkward morning after a hook-up that’s surprisingly endearing and earnest in equal measure.
